VAMPIRE HANDS – At Wizard Island Too Punk To Fuck/Cuz It’s A Beach Funeral LP NN004
Minneapolis’ Vampire Hands were a rather difficult-to-pigeonhole lot, with influences as diverse as Exuma,Can, Neil Young and Simply Saucer. A perspicacious sort might say that Vampire Hand’s sound could be described as Marc Bolan meets Mayo Thompson in Neil Haggerty‘s cannabistro. Fuzzy, distorted guitars meet tribal, pulsating rhythms. An eerily affecting falsetto (courtesy Chris Bierden, currently thumping the bass for Polica) melds with a lower, drier voice to create delightfully off-kilter harmonies. Ultra-limited, swankly-packaged LP that we were surprised to find a box of, stashed behind a gaggle of old gig posters in the Treehouse basement.
